Kimme of Irish Cottage Dreams has challanged me to a knit off! We will be knitting socks. I am a newbie at this of course but can't resist an international challange. So game on girl!
versus
Ireland (meself)
I started last night.....and - and - and none of you knitters out there warned me!
Knitting with dpns (double pointed needles) (I call them dippins) is like doing battle with a baby octopus crossed with a porcupine!...and every time I tried to get close to see what I was doing I put my eye out!
Who'd a thunk it that knitting was dangerous?
MMM....think I'll concede defeat now and save myself the humiliation.
I'm at the point now where I am planning to amputate one of my feet rather than make a second one (hence the title of this post)
On hearing this, Paul, very unwisely, added his twopence worth by saying "Well, you'll have to batter your other foot into a funny shape to suit that one"
He looks very fetching with a pair of dippins stuck up his nose!
Will update soon.
I Saw This and Thought of You......
My DH came back from shopping in Lidl's supermarket and handed me a set of pillowcases. "These were on special and I knew you would love them so I got them for you"
"And how did you know I would like them?" sez I (trying to look NOT astonished)
"Because when you are on the blogs and going "ooohhh and aaaahhh" I look over your shoulder and I have gathered from all that.....that pink, gingham and roses are a sure fire winner!"
..and so right he is too!
These are pure cotton, button closed at the bottom edge like a duvet cover and are reversable. I love them. Well done Paul...you are learning!
More spoiling for lil' ol' me! My second oldest son, Steve, called in the other day with a homemade orange chocolate cake that his girlfriend, Marie made for Paul. Yummmmy. Thanks Marie - it was delicious! (it lost part of its icing 'cos Steve brought it over on his bike and it had a rough journey. Didn't spoil the taste though!
GOTCHA STEVE!
I caught what is now one of my favourite photos of Steve while he was not minding the camera. Handsome devil! Love da' bones of ya' Steve.
About to be Listed
I have come across a lovely poster to list on my site Such Pretty Old Things. I got two of them - so listen up Angie!, you are getting the second one for your schoolhouse. (A very elegant lady with a dainty cocktail in her hand... )
(....and so is the woman on the poster!)
Next I found this wonderful large size print on canvas. It shows a young girl knitting and is called The Knitter by W.Bouvghoure. The original is in the Muesum of Fine Arts, Maynooth, Ireland.
This print looks like a real painting and would be great framed.
Also listed are these great, hand knitted in Ireland, arran berets. LOVE EM...they look like the one worn by Maureen O'Hara in the Quiet Man film.
Bye bye Hurricane Freddie
Well, Freddie, the dog next door, has gone back but not before chewing everything in site including the heel of my boot! Scamp....
But cute....oh, very cute.
A good laugh just when I needed one was provided by a friend who sent me this clip from Youtube
Now the link below is for those of you who might be getting married, have gotten married or just need a good laugh...it is Irish comedian Brendan Grace giving his renowned "Father of the Bride Speech" (father of the bride from hell that is)
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=T-dFgQGT9wQ
A pair of sock? Now I get it! And, Paul's comment about rearranging your foot to fit the one you did knit was a hoot! He made up for it with the lovely little gingham cases, eh?
And your son and his girlfriend...baking and bringing a cake...what a treat. You are right, he IS good-looking!
Nice things for your sale shop. And, what precious pictures of Freddie...such a dear.
Thanks for such a fun post!

Hi P, A knit off, that is a great idea, I will of course be cheering for you. The cake looks great (it is twelve thirty on Friday and I would love something sweet, roll on lunch time), and those pillow cases, I will be heading to Lidl after work to have a root. I read back on your previous posts and your little garden spot is so nice, luckily there were a few dry days to have a cuppa outside, I insisted we had dinner outside last night and we were frozen, back in as soon as the plates were empty. I too am a basket case....Hugs, Margie.

I have a print of The Knitter on canvas as shown above. Are there many out there? Can you tell me what the value is? I love it and it truly looks like an original painting. Thanks, Phyllis
