Next, we gathered for dinner in the restaurant. Pic shows meself with Noel O'Gorman and Tracy, then Joan and Liz,
Then Nuala (already collallopsed on the floor!) ...as Gaelge -for you Kimme! (...ar an urlar... = on the floor)
(We could tell at this point that the weekend ahead was a washout! How dreary...how would we get through it???) :-)
On to the dancefloor!...Did I mention that Friday was 70's Night? No? well it was....
Did we ever REALY dress like this?...
...or like this??? Patty and Susan groovin' to the beat!
While Ellen gets all psychadelic in ORIGINAL 70's outfit.
While the 'bould Declan...Is gettin on down... in da' hood!
Below...Joan O'Gorman, our dance teacher...and instigator or all this madness!
Check out the platform shoes!!!!!
The runners up line up for the result!
...and the winner is....SARAH!
and here is a pic of herself ....(meself, me, myself, the author of diz blog) with the amazing, one and only - Zinda O'Neill, linedancer extroidenaire....... who grew up on the same street as me and now has a cottage near mine in Aghavas which is right next door to Aughnasheelin, Leitrim...and is also a member of the same Line Dance Club as me! - Small world eh?
(The Memphis Swingers!...THE BEST LINE DANCE CLUB IN IRELAND! RIGH?)
And...Yes,.... as you can tell from our expressions - we are NOT having a good time,
....and are actually discussing the possibility of asking for a full refund...and hoppin' on the next bus back to to Dublin! Yeeeehaa!
(and if denied - sure - we'll make the best of it)
...and here is a pic of the gorgeous Susan, Zinda's friend who.....
...as you can tell, from the picture
will NEVER DARKEN THE DOOR OF A LINE DANCING VENUE AGAIN... because it is sooooh boring!
Saturday night is banquet night...Ruby, Pam, and Nuala (collectively known as "The Noolas")
...Three demure, shy, shrinking violet, ladylike creatures...A-hem!...
get ready for...
Whooohooo!
Fasten your safety pins....!!!!!!!!
...Saturday Night Fever!
The competition on Saturday was "Strictly Come Dancing" and the madness was contagious!
These are our hosts - Joan and Noel O'Gorman, of Memphis Swingers Dublin Line Dance Club
(they got disqualified for lewd behaviour on the floor..)
...literally "on the floor"
Scroll down if you dare!
You've been warned!
MMMM....well, we'll move on....
Here we have ....The "Farmers"...representing the best of rural Ireland's dancing talent...give a rousing welcome to....This pair of lunatics...
(they went on to win the overall title) Ah, yes, it was that kind of a night.
Representing the Wicklow Sheep Shavers & Shimmiers Lion Dancing Club Marion shows her sewing skills in this shapeless chiffon shift with hand applied details while Philomena seems blissfully unaware that he/she is lacking in the zipper department!
Don't try this at home!
Ah, sufferin' heart!
And here, the Judge,...our Liz (admint it Liz, you took a bribe) presents the first prize to the "She" Farmer as the "He" Farmer displays the latest fashions in ----well ventilated knitwear and trousers!
And the runners up were....These (they wish to remain unaniimus, animanuous, anyoneemus - a feck it...unknown!
them...Sarah and Tom who took the trophy for second place. (return it Tom and we wont prosecute)
...and those...Johnny (Sex on Legs) and Tracy Ann (Sexy Legs) who left the floor in a fit of pique at the result!
So, that is what I got up to at the weekend... I'm tired and emotional...it takes a lot out of you to witness such, ...red hatted madness! Talk to you soon!
Totally unrelated is the following post....
Barak Obama is Irish! Didn't y0u know that????
Congratulations to the USA on their new president...Of course he's Irish don't ye' know???
Ah, yes, .....sure all newly elected American presidents are of Irish extraction ....and we search and search until we find their roots and lay claim to them as true Sons of Erin.
Pres. Reagan was from Ballyporeen, Pres. Kennedy was from Wexford etc
We then invite them to check out the old homestead and throw a shindig/hooley when they arrive...So apparently Barak Obama is from Moneygall on the Tipperary/Offaly border!
There is even a song specially written for him...it goes
O'Leary, O'Reilly, O'Hare and O'Hara
There's no one as Irish as Barack O'Bama
From the old Blarney Stone to the green hills of Tara
There's no one as Irish as Barak O'Bama...
check out the rest of this song here by clicking on link
LOL, I wonder if he knows??? :-)

Hi Kimme- Your blog is getting better and better. I have been away for a while, and a family loss, so I am just getting back in the swing of things.
I so loved the story of your Mom - You told it so well! Then, your Grandmother - how lucky you were to have learned life's lessons and how to treat others. I was so moved! The real you is emerging now and she is even nicer than I had imagined.
Keep on writing about your days -- they sound heavenly and so does your daughter. Glad you are real pals.
At times, I take pictures instead of talking, because I tend to hold back. Not sure why......
You have made my day and now I am off to enjoy what we are told will be the last "warm" day we will have.
It's been so nice knowing you through your words and pictures....

Check out the Dancing Queens! Looks like you all had a brilliant time on your wild weekend .:-)
Posted by: sharie | November 12, 2008 at 11:03 AM
Wow I'm impressed at your dance. You even had the entire ABBA group there! I was a wee miss during the 70's and have managed to block just how horrid the styles were then. LOL
Doesn't surprise me that Obama is part Irish, if you ignore all else the Irish have contributed to the world you still have to say procration was one of their best claims to fame. ;)

We are all in the position of the farmer. If we plant a good seed, we reap a good harvest. If our seed is poor and full of weeds, we reap a useless crop. If we plant nothing at all, we harvest nothing at all.
