We were almost at the cottage driving up the very narrow boreen (bóthar-éen ,which means small road) when we met our nearest neighbours, Francie, Mikey and Paul. Three farmer brothers who live further up the mountain. They were herding their cows from the field across from our house down the lane to another field. I had never been this close to real live cows before and Mikey said to me "Are you afraid of cattle?" and I said "I am now!"
I, of course, had to photo the whole scene to share with blogland. Francie refused to be in it saying "Sure I'll burst your camera if I'm in it" and "Yer like the papparazzi!" Photo shows Paul (the farmer) Angie, my Paul and Mikey. Take a look at the road they are standing on- that, believe it or not, is the public road up the mountain. It is great "fun" when you are driving and meet another car going the other way!
The three farmers are three lovely soft spoken old fashioned gentlemen with lilting accents that I never tire of listening to. And off they went strolling down the road in no particular hurry. That's one of the things I love about Leitrim - the relaxed pace of life. Everyone works very hard and it all gets done but at a pace we have long forgotten in big cities. I have been told that "Everything is done just this side of breaking a sweat"
Oh, what a great post, Pam! I'd love to be there and walk up that little road! We have them that narrow out in these hills I live in. I'm always nervous that we'll meet a logging truck or other big vehicle when were out driving! I loved seeing the pics and hearing more about Leitrim and the lovely lifestyle!

I've come from Thrift Shop Romantic for a visit. All she had to say was Irish and Gaelic and here I am. I'm off to read further and learn a few words.
