Warning017ca0yydhnca4r14evcaw4ylqxcae7evde
When I am an old woman I shall wear purple
With a red hat which doesn't go, and doesn't suit me.
And I shall spend my pension on brandy and summer gloves
And satin sandals, and say we've no money for butter.
I shall sit down on the pavement when I'm tired
And gobble up samples in shops and press alarm bells
And run my stick along the public railings
And make up for the sobriety of my youth.
I shall go out in my slippers in the rain
And pick flowers in other people's gardens
And learn to spit.

You can wear terrible shirts and grow more fat
And eat three pounds of sausages at a go
Or only bread and pickle for a week
And hoard pens and pencils and beermats and things in boxes.

But now we must have clothes that keep us dry
And pay our rent and not swear in the street
And set a good example for the children.
We must have friends to dinner and read the papers.

But maybe I ought to practice a little now?
So people who know me are not too shocked and surprised
When suddenly I am old, and start to wear purple.

Isn't it a great poem? First found it on one of those postcards for free in cafes. Yes, and I'm wearing shades of purple now, aand practicing, because even though I'm 60, I don't feel it, but I like the idea of not caring what anyone thinks.

Hehe! That always makes me laugh!

Ihave always loved this poem, and hopefully we can all look forward to wearing purple but not right now cause im still a rock chick and always wear black,[slimming] in fact its more like camoflage good if your out at night time !!!!!!!!!

I always said I wasn't going to grow old with grace, i was going to do it with spunk. Well add me to the list of the purple hat wearers and maybe I'll just add green hair to make it a little crazy. Oh and I did grab a handfull of lilacs from the neighbors yard on Friday!

You are too sweet! I read your blog to.. BEFORE you commented on mine so I beat you to it. I consider myself and early red hatter and have even blogged about it. :) Bring on the purple pants and red hat. I'll wear them to Ireland for our LUNCHEON!! :)

Thanks for your sweet compliments. I love writing the blog and I'm so thrilled I am A SUPERSTAR abroad! YEE HAW! I'm just kidding. Well not really. I'm just being polite by saying that I'm Just kidding. When in fact again, I AM THRILLED that some person , let alone in Ireland, is SOMEWHAT interested in my little meanderings. :) yahh me. Oh wait. I mean. Just kidding.

((hugs)))

I do love it and thank you - I've always thought of black as slimming too, but I love color - so I decided I could be chubby in black or FABULOUSLY chubby in any color I want! I have copied and saved this poem- for some I know that are getting to the age where every compliment is followed by...."for your age"
Colleen

Ohh....!!! and a belated thank you for the invite for the luncheon in August! How kind . Wouldn't that be fun.

You'd all duck tape my then 33 year old mouth after 3 minutes.

:)
I would LOVE to come. It's so tempting.
Thank you thank you thank you!
